This summer, Nike SB teams up with San Diego-based skateshop Arts-Rec for a standout Dunk Low that blends skateboarding heritage, local storytelling, and bold design. Rooted in the city’s culture and inspired by its natural surroundings, the Arts-Rec x Nike SB Dunk Low is both a tribute to San Diego and a reflection of the shop’s unique identity.
Inspired Design & Materials
The sneaker features a mix of rust pink nubuck, olive green tumbled leather, and khaki suede overlays with a debossed panther print—evoking a modern safari feel. A translucent outsole reveals “Arts-Recreation San Diego California,” tying the shoe directly to its origins. The amber suede Swooshes, Sail midsole, and animal-print sockliner round out the look.
Storytelling in the Details
Unique touches like “arts” and “rec” heel embroidery, “for recreational use” text on the side, and custom Zoom Air pods with animal graphics all contribute to the shoe’s layered storytelling. Hidden messages inside the tongue—“Please Do Not Tap On Glass” and “Please Do Not Feed the Animals”—along with a UFO graphic referencing local lore, add personality and playfulness.
From Skateshop to Culture Hub
Founded in 2018 by pro skater Kellen James, Arts-Rec was born from San Diego’s deep skateboarding roots. With two locations, the brand has become a hub for both retail and community events, capturing the dual spirit of art and recreation. This Dunk embodies that ethos with four lace sets, custom artwork, and homages to the city’s scenery and energy.
