The classic of all classics! The Gazelle is undoubtedly one of the most famous and iconic shoes ever made by Adidas, with a long history dating back to the mid-1960s. Although the shoe can be seen as rather simplistic in today's sense, its understated and clean-looking silhouette has endeared it to many of its fans ever since, ensuring that it has been produced almost continuously for 50 years.
So what makes the Gazelle so great, apart from its looks? It was the first Adidas shoe made from suede (in this case, kangaroo velour). At the time, training shoes were made from leather. The advantage of suede is that it is much lighter and more flexible, while still maintaining a good level of protection for the foot.
The Gazelle shoe model brings to mind images of Acid Jazz clubs, Hip-Hop, Madonna dressed head to toe in Adidas, New Labor, Lad Culture associated with the Britpop movement, Ministry of Sound, Oasis and other Britpop bands.
