Nike SB has teamed up with Greek skate shop Color Skates to introduce a new Dunk High shoe model dubbed Kebab and Destroy.
In 2008, Vassilis Aramvoglou wanted to open more than a skate shop - he was driven to create a cultural hub for Athens' burgeoning skate scene. In Psirri, a neighborhood with close proximity to spots and also many dysfunctional commercial spaces with a poor reputation, he saw an opportunity. Vassilis saw the potential of a basement space on the street, but also a vision for a brand. "I was at a crossroads in my career and saw an opportunity," he says. "People were questioning the location, even though it was in the center of Athens and in a basement? They thought I was crazy. It was the first store I checked out. Skate shops were changing from old-skool stores covered in stickers to a boutique look. I knew I wanted to paint the whole store black and call it Color."
With this mission, Color Athens has become a store and a hub of activity. For their collaboration with Nike SB, Color wanted a colorful journey that combined their love of skateboarding, Greek culture, and also national food.
Kebab Dunk combines layers of color and texture that draw from street food classics and add a local flavor.
