Nike SB presents another piece of its puzzle of stories surrounding the Dunk shoe.
Sanzo Wada was a Japanese artist who published a book with the aptly titled Dictionary of Color Combinations. It was published in six volumes during the 1930s, laying the foundations for modern color theory. On sale is a current softcover reprint of the first volume, which contains over 300 color combinations. All are based on a library of 160 colors – very classic, muted, soft colors with names like Diamine Green or Eosin Pink – and arranged in combinations of two, three, and four. What makes this book (and the author ) stand out from the hundreds of other books on color combinations is the fact that Sanzo Wada – a prolific artist and costume designer in pre-war and post-war Japan – was the first person to explore the harmony of color combination and to meticulously catalog his work in books devoted entirely to his research. Sanzo Wada identified 160 Japanese "basic" colors - used in everything from kimono fabrics to movie posters - from which he created over a thousand color palettes, and although his work originated in Japan in the 1930s, Wada's pioneering studies are a thorough analysis of the color aesthetics found in Japanese art and design for centuries.
Wade's diligence and approach to color inspired the Nike Skateboarding brand.
They are releasing two Dunk SB Low shoe models in the color combination Orange / Noise Aqua - Emerald Rise, which is in the dictionary on page 181, and also Mystic Red / Emerald Rise, which you can find on page 194.
